HISTORIA DEL HINMO DE GUATEMALA
El Poeta anónimo
El poeta que modestamente mantendria en el anonimato ser el autor de la letra del Himno Nacional de Guatemala nació en la ciudad de Bayama,Cuba, el 11 de Septiembre de 1844. ¿su nombre? JOSE JOAQUIN PALMA. Hombre que amó tanto a Guatemala, que hizo de esta tierra india del Quetzal su segunda patria. como humanista cumplio diferentes comisiones en representación de su pais, y en Guatemala, al ser nonbrado consul General de Cuba, se ganó la simpatía y cariño de todos los guatemaltecos.
El 23 de julio de 1911 salio del anonimato para aceptar publicamente que el era el autor de los 48 versos que componen nuestro Himno Nacional. con júbilo y reconocimiento imperecedero, el pueblo entero le rindió justo homenaje colocando una guirnalda de laurel sobre su sien en un significativo e indeleble agradecimiento por el contenido del canto patriotico que habia escrito como homenaje a su segunda patria, y a todos los guatemaltecos. entre (de fechas 10 de octubre y 27 de noviembre de 1873 ) "Tiniebla en el alma" y nuestro Himno Nacional.
Este insigne varón dejó de existir físicamente el 2 de agosto de 1911, exactamente nueve días después del homenaje rendido en señal de agradecimiento por su óptimo canto. sus restos resposaron en la necrópolis capitalina hasta el 17 de abril de 1951, fecha en que fueron trasportados a su Ciudad natal por heberlos requerido su pais de origen Cuba.
